Apyxx Technologies Receives Special Award from Digitech Systems
Digitech Systems recognizes the tremendous achievement of Apyxx Techonologies in the post-Katrina rebuilding of its company
Metairie, LA – February 26, 2007 – Like so many companies in the New Orleans area, Katrina affected Apyxx Technologies in more ways than they ever expected. While many companies are experiencing a post-Katrina boom, this Metairie based document management software company has endured and grown despite some serious and interesting Katrina-induced hurdles.

Luckily, their office in the Galleria suffered only minor damage. But during the company’s four month hiatus using a virtual office configuration with a home base of a Houston apartment, it began to experience significant turnover. While all had different reasons, some saw the post-Katrina economy to be ripe for an entrepreneurial move, another left the country altogether. Before the one year anniversary of the storm, the company had experienced a total turnover among its staff.

“Just one short year ago, this was a shell of a company – no staff, no office,” said Sean Morris, Director of Sales for Digitech Systems, at the award presentation. “What Apyxx Technologies has done is an amazing testament to hard work and determination.”

As 2006 began, the company was back in its office in the Galleria with new drywall, a fresh coat of paint and plenty of work to do. Stoney Ware, the owner of company and a 22 year veteran of the document retention industry, knew that great opportunity lay ahead for his company but he needed to build the right team to fuel its growth. “For all of the years that I have been selling document management software and document imaging systems, I would tell customers, ‘If the big one ever hits, you’ll have all of your company’s critical files protected.’ And nobody ever paid that much attention – they certainly never bought our software for that. It was always about the time savings and the efficiencies gained. But we knew these capabilities were an important lagniappe.”

Fast forward a year and a big hurricane and things have changed.

“Now when we talk to companies it’s one of the first things out of their mouth. Of course they want efficiency and productivity but they’re really concerned with protecting their documents and disaster recovery. It’s an exciting time in our industry – it seems like businesses are finally understanding the power an importance of these systems.”

The core offering of the company is a software system that allows companies to scan and organize all of their documents – both paper and electronic – in a computer based archive that is Internet accessible. Additional components are available to make interaction, collaboration and document sharing easier and more productive, including a tool that automatically routes paperwork and electronic documents throughout an organization.

As the market changed Ware began to recruit and build a team of experienced professionals to capitalize on these new opportunities. After attracting the right talent to rebuild the technical support, installation and training areas, he began looking to expand his management team.

“I knew that if we were going to capitalize on this change in the marketplace, we needed to have the right folks on board.” Ware reached out to Tom Grady, another entrepreneur who was displaced to Georgia after Katrina’s impact proved to be catastrophic to his business. “We had worked together before and I felt that he understood where we are and what we need to do. And it’s always good to bring talent back home.” At the end of the summer of 2006, Grady joined the company as Vice President.

The company’s future looks brighter than ever. As 2007 began, Apyxx Technologies was recognized as a member of Digitech Systems’ elite worldwide reseller group, the Circle of Excellence.
